A Personal Note

Dear Readers,
As an editor, I would like to share with you something personal, but you need to know it. This magazine has been conceptualized and created quite thoughtfully after looking at the noise that fills up the digital space. Sometime back, there was limited content on the web as the technology was difficult. But with the changing times, as things became simpler, the web began to be populated with all kinds of content. And only for the worse, the real news, the real creativity, the real knowledge - it all got subsided.

Everyday, our team gets together to work hard and bring to you things that you really need to know, things that will add value to your knowledge and things that you should engage with online. In our efforts to fill the web with positive engagement, especially in the difficult times of this pandemic, we need your support! Just like you donate a penny to fill someone’s stomach, you can share this dose of positivity to make someone happy or smarter (actually both!), it’s FREE!
If there’s anything that you would like to contribute, please please please share it in the feedback below. We take all your views seriously.

Working hard to make you smarter every day!
Keep Reading, Keep Sharing

Abraham Lincoln - MY MUSE

by Declan from Calgary
"Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves"-Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln inspired me because he stopped slavery. I'm doing a biography and my book has 428 pgs. The book covers Abraham Lincoln's whole life.

Abraham Lincoln was born near Hodgenville Kentucky on Feb. 12, 1809. Abraham Lincoln's parents were farmers and he had one sister two years older. Abe was home-schooled until 16. Abraham would tell stories to make people forget the question they asked. He was 106 lbs at 16. Abraham was most inspired by his father. He wanted slavery to end. He did not even know what to do when he grew up. He would stop slavery later in life.
Abraham Lincoln's parents were poor. Abraham's dad sold his cattle so they could move to Indiana. An important event in Lincoln's life was when he gave the Gettysburg Address. Abraham was very kind for stopping slavery and Abraham was smart by writing the best speech in the U.S.A. He also loved to tell stories to people. President Lincoln was afraid of his oldest son being killed at war. This fear made him worry that his decision to end slavery caused thousands of men to die at war. He would not let his son join the Union Army for years and felt weak for not allowing his son to be at risk. Abraham was elected president in 1860.

I was surprised that Abraham Lincoln was poor and then became President of the U.S.A. Three questions I would ask Abraham are: How did willy die? Did you ever go to school? Why did you sign the declaration for no slavery. Abraham Lincoln was famous for being President. I would like to ask Abraham Lincoln what his kids did when the war was on. I would not want to be Abraham Lincoln as a kid because he lived in a cabin and was poor. Three things I learned from the book I read:
1) Abraham Lincoln loved to tell stories.
2) Abraham's mom died in October 1818
3) Abraham was poor.

The only thing in common is my last name is Abrahams. People would read this book because it has so much info about Abraham's life. I loved learning about
Abe Lincoln's life. I would consider Abe as a hero because he stopped slavery and the war.

December 1816 Abraham moved to Indiana, October 1818 Nancy Lincoln died, August 1834 Lincoln was elected to Illinois House of Representatives and November 1860 Lincoln was elected for President. April 12 1861 Civil war began; it lasted four years. January 1 1863 Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation and November 19 1863 Lincoln gave the famous Gettysburg Address. In November 1864 Abraham got re-elected and inspired the January 31 1865 13th amendment. It was on this day, April 14 1865 Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth at Ford's Theater in Washington. Subsequently on April 15th, he passed away.

How can we use natural resources responsibly?

You are walking through a lush forest. A soft cushion of needles keeps your footsteps silent. You smell the trees. You hear chipmunks in the branches. Birds dart back and forth. This is a beautiful place. But the trees may soon be cut down for lumber and paper. Can we keep our forests and still have the products we need?

>> Natural resources are living things from the Earth that living things need.
>> Trees are an example of natural resources.
>> Trees are also an example of a renewable resource.
>> Renewable resources are resources that can be replaced in a fairly short time.

Fossil fuels take millions of years to form. They are the product of the fossilized remains of dead plants and animals that have been exposed to the heat and pressure deep within the earth’s crust. There are many types of fossil fuels, such as petroleum (gasoline), natural gas, and coal.

In what ways are fossil fuels a good source of energy?
- They are currently producing 86% of the world’s energy.
What are the disadvantages to using fossil fuels as a source of energy?
- They pollute, they are not renewable.
How do you use the resource of fossil fuels in your life, if at all?
- We all use them variedly.

Conservation is the wise use of natural resources so that people do not waste them or use them up.
When people walk instead of riding in a car, they save fuel.
When they choose products that have less packaging, they save paper and plastic.
There is less garbage. Saving in these ways is called conservation.

We will tell you about Solar, Wind Based and Water Based Energies in this column tomorrow!

Plan Your Next Trip to a Pirate Cemetery

Yes! You read it right! There is a pirate cemetery and actually the world’s only known pirate cemetery in Madagascar. Have you seen the Pirates of the Carribean or Pan’s tales about the unknown pirate lands? Have you seen pirates going around the world in wooden ships with ominous flags? Ever wondered where they go when they were water-sick? Haha! Or where was their home? Read More
In the 17th and 18th centuries, Île Sainte-Marie, a small island about 5 miles (8 kilometers) off the coast of Madagascar, was home to an estimated 1,000 pirates. For around 100 years, anyone who was anyone in the pirate world is said to have lived there when they weren't sailing the high seas.

Today, Île Sainte-Marie is home to the world's only known pirate cemetery. When pirates died on the island, they were buried atop a hill overlooking the water.

While we stay safe at our homes, let’s explore it through Google Street View:

Model United Nations - Let’s Prepare

Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an extra-curricular activity in which students typically roleplay delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. This activity takes place at MUN conferences, which is usually organized by a high school or college MUN club. At the end of most conferences, outstanding delegates in each committee are recognized and given an award certificate; the Best Delegate in each committee, however, receives a gavel.

As you stay at home, during the extended lockdowns, we help you prepare for MUNs, so you can become a ‘Pro’ the moment you join School back and show all the skills you’ve gained during this time. Keep looking for this column everyday! ...

Thousands of middle school, high school, and college students across the country and around the world participate in Model United Nations, which involves substantial researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.

It is estimated that more than 400,000 students worldwide participate every year in MUN at all educational levels – from primary school to university.
Model United Nations (MUN) has existed for more than 70 years. But it was never monitored by the UN. The first time that a MUN conference was co-sponsored by the UN was in August 2000 at UN Headquarters in New York. Almost a decade later, the UN Department of Public Information organized three Global Model UN (GMUN) conferences in Geneva, Kuala Lumpur and Incheon, from 2009 to 2011 respectively. It was in the context of these three conferences that new rules of procedure and a new approach to conducting MUN simulations of the General Assembly were introduced. Today, the UN has developed guidelines for conducting a MUN simulation. It does not conduct its own MUN simulations but provides advice on how students can organize them following the proper procedures and processes.

Ignite the flame, forge our hearts
Shatter these elusive walls of glass.
On the moon let's make a home-
A garden of stars, a lazy morn;
Sing to me the story of us
And we'll carve the runes on a stone.
Rhyme it with our beating heart.
Till the dusk of time, let's make it last.

Global warming- Ah, What to say !!
It affects us every single day.
Mother earth is in excruciating pain,
Every being on the planet has nothing to gain.
From depleting ozone to changes in temperature,
We are spoiling each particle of our nature.
We all have to think and foresee,
Otherwise our future will not be glee.
Oh!! Our Earth is so precious and can't be replaced,
So we need to save it or our races will be erased.
