The rural regions of France were struck with fear when hundreds of people were killed by a mysterious creature. We are talking about 1765 to 1767. The beast was never captured or found anywhere else. But mystery regarding its existence still prevails among the scientists and historians. A Wolf? A Dog? A Lion? The first fatal attack of the beast is recorded to be on June 30, 1764. The victim was a 14-year old girl. The beast was unidentified by the people. Some eyewitnesses called it to be like a wolf but of the size of a horse. It supposedly had black stripes on its back and talons on its feet. The people were so fear stricken that all the hunters would look for the beast to hunt it down. A similar attempt was taken on by a 71-year old gun-bearer and his nephew. They shot a massive wolf, and it was believed to be the unknown beast. They were even patronised, and rewarded for having brought the corpse to the royal court. But the attack resumed again in June 1767. The royal court started ignoring these attacks, thinking the beast had been killed.
